Getting Started
1. Creating Your Account
Sign up at The Noir Atlas with your email address and choose a display name — the name other members and businesses see when you interact on the platform. You can also add a profile photo and fill in your home city so the Discover feed can surface local businesses near you.

2. Choosing Your Interests
During sign-up — and at any time in your account settings — you can choose the categories you care about: Food & Drink, Music, Fashion, Health & Wellness, and more. Your selections directly shape what appears in your Discover feed. Businesses and artists in your chosen categories are ranked higher.
Update your interests anytime from Account → Interests. Changes take effect on your next Discover feed load.
3. Your Home Page
When you log in you land on the Discover tab — a personalized feed of businesses, artists, deals, and events near you and in your interest categories. Switch to the My Feed tab to see posts from businesses and artists you follow.
The Discover feed is divided into sections: Featured Businesses, For You, Featured Artists, Artists You Might Like, Don't Miss Events, Events For You, New on The Noir Atlas, and Coming Up Soon. Sections with fewer than 3 results are hidden automatically.

Member Packs
4. What Are Member Packs?
Member Packs unlock deal redemptions at Black-owned businesses and artists on the platform. There are four tiers:
- Roots — entry level, unlocks Roots-tier deals (3 slots)
- Rise — unlocks Roots + Rise deals (3 additional slots)
- Reign — unlocks Roots + Rise + Reign deals (3 more slots)
- Legacy — all tiers, 9 total slots (3 Roots + 3 Rise + 3 Reign)
Each tier also unlocks access to exclusive events and early-access drops from businesses at that tier or below.

5. Purchasing a Pack
Go to the Marketplace → Packs tab and select the tier you want. Packs can be purchased as a one-time payment or as a monthly subscription. Stripe handles all payments securely — you'll receive a confirmation email and receipt after purchase.
6. Managing Your Pack
View your active packs under Account → Packs. Each pack shows the tier, how many slots you've used, how many remain, and the expiry date. A progress bar fills as you redeem deals. Upgrading to a higher tier adds more slots on top of your existing pack.

7. Pack Expiry & Renewal
Packs expire based on their type — monthly subscriptions renew automatically on your billing date, one-time packs last for their stated duration. The expiry date turns amber at 7 days and red at 1 day. When a pack expires, its slots lock and any deal redemptions requiring that tier are blocked until you renew or upgrade. Subscription packs auto-renew unless you cancel from Account → Packs → Manage Subscription.
8. Gifting Packs
You can send a pack as a gift from the Marketplace → Packs tab — select a tier, enter the recipient's email, and complete checkout. The recipient receives an email with a claim link. Gift packs don't auto-renew.
Discovering Businesses
9. The Directory

10. Business Profiles

13. The Verified Black-Owned Badge
The Verified Black-Owned badge appears on businesses that have submitted documentation confirming Black ownership and passed admin review. The badge appears on their directory card, public profile header, and search results. You can filter the directory to show only verified businesses.
Discovering Artists
14. Browsing Artists
Find artists in the directory by switching to the Artists section. Filter by art discipline — Music, Visual Arts, Literary Arts, Performing Arts, Graphic Design, Photography, and more. Artists with active deals and events appear higher in results.

16. Following an Artist
Same flow as following a business — click Follow on their profile. Artist posts (behind-the-scenes, new releases, event announcements) appear in your My Feed tab. Unfollow at any time from their profile or from Account → Following.
Deals & Redemptions
17. How Deals Work
Deals are offers created by businesses and artists — discounts, free items, exclusive access, or services at reduced rates. Deals appear on their profiles, in your Discover feed, and in the directory. Some deals are free for all members; others require a specific pack tier.
18. Tier-Locked Deals
A deal with a tier badge (Roots, Rise, Reign, or Legacy) can only be redeemed if your active pack matches or exceeds that tier. If you don't qualify, the Redeem button shows an upgrade prompt linking to the Packs page. Free deals have no tier requirement.
19. Redeeming a Deal
On a deal card, tap Redeem. A confirmation screen shows the deal details and asks you to confirm. Once confirmed, a unique QR code appears — show it to the business or artist to complete the redemption. The QR code can only be used once and expires after the session.

20. Flash Deals
Flash deals are time-limited offers that expire within hours. They appear prominently in the Discover feed with a countdown timer. When the timer turns red, the deal is under 1 hour from expiry. Flash deals often have the best value — check the feed regularly to catch them.
21. Your Redemption History
All past redemptions are logged under Account → Activity → Redemptions. Each entry shows the date, business or artist name, deal title, and redemption code. If you have an issue with a redemption, tap the entry and use the Report Issue link.

Events & Tickets
22. Finding Events
Browse upcoming events at /events. Filter by date range, city, category (concerts, workshops, pop-ups, etc.), price range, and 18+ status. Events near you appear first when you're signed in with a home city set.
23. Event Details Page
Each event page shows the full description, date and time, venue and address, host profile link, ticket types and pricing, and any age restrictions. Tap the host name to visit their business or artist profile.
24. Buying Tickets
Select a ticket type, choose your quantity, and proceed through the Stripe checkout. Your tickets are held in a basket for a set time while you complete payment — if the timer expires the hold is released. After purchase you receive a confirmation email with your ticket QR codes.
25. Your Tickets
Find purchased tickets under Account → Activity → Tickets. Each ticket shows the event name, date, ticket type, and your unique QR code. Tap to enlarge the QR code for scanning at the door.

26. Event Day — Check-In
Open your ticket QR code in the Tickets section of your account and show it to the event host or door staff for scanning. The scanner confirms your ticket is valid and marks you as checked in. If you purchased multiple tickets for a group, each ticket has its own QR code.
27. Gifting Tickets
After purchasing tickets you can transfer any individual ticket to another person. From Account → Activity → Tickets, tap a ticket and select Gift Ticket. Enter the recipient's email — they receive a claim link. Once claimed the ticket is transferred and you can no longer use it.
Marketplace
28. Browsing the Marketplace
The Marketplace at /marketplace contains all products and services listed by businesses and artists — physical goods, digital downloads, services, commissions, and external links. Filter by category to narrow results.
29. Making a Purchase
Tap a marketplace item to view details and pricing. Add to cart and complete checkout through Stripe. Digital items are delivered immediately after payment. Physical goods are fulfilled by the seller. You'll receive a confirmation email after every purchase.
30. Your Orders
View all shop orders under Account → Activity → Orders. Each order shows the item, seller, date, amount, and status. Use the contact link to reach out to a seller about your order.
Your Feed & Community
31. My Feed Tab
The My Feed tab on your home page shows posts from all businesses and artists you follow — text updates, photos, announcements, and upcoming event previews. Posts are sorted newest first. Follow more businesses and artists to build a richer feed.
