Artist Guide

Everything you can do as an Artist

Your complete reference for every feature in your artist dashboard — portfolio, shop, deals, events, the QR scanner, payouts, and marketing tiers.

Getting Started

1. Creating Your Artist Account

Sign up at The Noir Atlas and select Artist as your account type. Choose your primary art discipline — Music, Visual Arts, Literary Arts, Performing Arts, Graphic Design, Photography, and more. Your discipline sets your category in the directory and determines which features are highlighted on your public profile.

2. Completing Your Profile

Fill in: your artist name, a bio (tell your story and describe your work), a short tagline, profile photo, and banner image. Add social media links — Instagram, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Spotify, website, and more. For artists who take in-person commissions or studio visits, you can also set a location type and business hours.

3. Setting Your Categories

Your art discipline and categories determine where you appear in the directory and which members see you in their Discover feed. Members who have selected matching interest categories (like Music or Visual Arts) will see you in their personalized feed automatically.

4. Getting Verified (Black-Owned Badge)

The Verified Black-Owned badge confirms you are a Black artist. Submit verification from your dashboard’s Profile tab. Our admin team reviews and approves the badge, which appears on your directory listing, public profile, and search results.

Your Dashboard

5. Dashboard Overview

Your artist dashboard contains everything you need to manage your presence on the platform. The Overview tab shows your key stats at a glance — followers, portfolio views, active deals, and upcoming events. Navigate through tabs: Profile, Portfolio, Deals, Events, Shop, Gallery, Feed, Orders, Analytics, Payouts, Settings, and more.

6. Analytics

Track profile views, follower growth, portfolio piece engagement, shop sales, and deal redemption counts. Use the time-period filter to understand trends. Analytics help you identify which portfolio pieces get the most attention and which deals drive the most engagement.

7. Payouts

Your Payouts tab shows earnings from ticket sales and shop orders after the platform’s percentage. Your payout rate depends on your Marketing Tier: Standard 75%, Featured 60%, Spotlight 50%, Premier 40%. Connect your Stripe account to receive funds directly to your bank.

Portfolio

8. Building Your Portfolio

Add portfolio pieces from the Portfolio tab — each piece has a title, description, and one or more images. Arrange pieces in any order by dragging to reorder. Your portfolio is the first tab visitors see on your public profile, making it your most important first impression.

9. Portfolio Best Practices

Use your highest-quality images — portfolio pieces are shown at full width on your profile. Write descriptions that explain your process, materials, or the story behind the work. Lead with your best 3–5 pieces; quality over quantity. Members browsing the directory often tap through to the portfolio before following or reaching out.

Deals

10. Creating Artist Deals

Create deals from the Deals tab — examples: “20% off portrait commissions for Reign+ members,” “Free beat download for all members,” “Free sample pack for Rise+ members.” Deals appear on your profile and in the Discover feed, giving members a tangible reason to follow and engage with your work.

11. Tier-Locking Deals

Assign a minimum pack tier to a deal (Roots, Rise, Reign, or Legacy). Members without the qualifying tier see the deal but are prompted to upgrade. Tier-locked deals make your higher-tier offerings feel exclusive and drive pack upgrades from engaged fans.

12. Deal Limits & Rules

Set per-member redemption limits (once ever, once per day/week/month, unlimited) and a total redemption cap across all members. Add start and end dates for campaign-specific deals — album launch week, holiday promotions, or limited commission slots.

13. Managing Your Deals

View all deals — active, paused, and expired — from the Deals tab. Edit details, pause temporarily, reactivate, or delete. Each deal shows total redemptions, unique members who redeemed, and the redemption rate over time.

Events

14. Creating an Artist Event

Artists can host events — concerts, workshops, exhibitions, pop-ups, open studios, listening parties, and more. Go to Events → Create Event and fill in the same fields as a business event: title, description, venue, date/time, event category, cover image, and 18+ flag.

15. Ticket Types & Pricing

Add ticket types specific to your event format — General Admission, VIP (meet & greet), Workshop Seat, Gallery Admission, Open Studio Pass. Set individual prices and quantities. Free events (open studios, gallery openings) work at $0 for capacity tracking.

16. Ticket Bundles

Create packages that combine multiple tickets — a “Bring a Friend” bundle or a workshop plus digital download package. Bundles increase average order value and create memorable offerings for superfans.

17. Recurring Events

Mark events as recurring for weekly open studios, monthly showcases, or bi-weekly workshops. One listing covers all dates with per-occurrence capacity. Members can purchase for any specific upcoming date.

18. Event Day — Scanner & Doorlist

Use the Scanner tab in your dashboard to check in attendees by scanning their ticket QR codes. The Doorlist shows all ticket holders, searchable by name and filterable by ticket type and check-in status. Tap any name to manually check them in. Export the full attendee list as CSV.

19. Walk-Up Sales

Generate a Stripe payment link for at-the-door ticket sales. Walk-up purchases appear on the doorlist in real time. Log cash sales manually using “Mark as Paid.”

20. Event Proof & Payouts

After your event, submit proof from the event page — photos taken during the event. Admin reviews within 24–48 hours. Once approved, your payout is released to your Stripe account. Your payout percentage is set by your Marketing Tier.

Shop & Marketplace

21. Adding Shop Items

Go to Shop → Add Item. Artist-specific product types: physical art (original pieces, prints, merch), digital downloads (beats, presets, ebooks, templates, digital art), services (commissions, consultations), and external links (to your own store, Bandcamp, Gumroad). Add title, description, photos, pricing, and a marketplace category.

22. Digital Goods

For digital products, upload the file and set a price. After purchase, the buyer receives an automatic download link via email. Digital goods are ideal for beats, sample packs, presets, ebooks, digital art files, and design templates — no shipping, instant delivery.

23. Services & Commissions

List commission services as a “service” product type — custom portraits, logo design, music production, photography sessions. After purchase, buyers receive a confirmation and your contact information to coordinate the details. Set clear timelines and scope in your product description.

24. Managing Orders

View all shop orders from the Orders tab. Update fulfillment status and contact buyers directly. For commissions and services, use the status updates to keep buyers informed of your progress.

Community & Engagement

26. Posting to the Feed

Create posts from the Feed tab — text updates, photos, or both. Posts appear in the My Feed tab of all members who follow you. Share new releases, upcoming events, commission availability, behind-the-scenes content, and shoutouts. Posts also appear in the Feed section of your public profile.

27. Reviews

Members can leave star ratings and written reviews on your profile after purchasing from you or attending your events. Respond to reviews publicly from the Reviews tab. Your average rating appears on your directory listing and profile header.

28. Q&A

Members submit questions from your public profile about your art, commission availability, pricing, turnaround times, and more. Answer them from your Q&A tab — all answered questions are permanently visible to visitors, reducing repetitive inquiries.

Marketing & Visibility

29. Marketing Tiers

Four tiers control how prominently you appear across the platform:

  • Standard (75% payout) — directory listing, Discover feed inclusion
  • Featured (60% payout) — category placement, boosted feed rotation
  • Spotlight (50% payout) — featured artist sections, push notifications to interested members
  • Premier (40% payout) — homepage banner, email blasts, maximum feed priority

30. Marketing Tier Eligibility

To select a tier above Standard, you must have at least one active paid deal on your profile. This ensures members who discover you through marketing have something to act on immediately. Removing your last paid deal resets your tier to Standard.

31. Your Public Profile

Your public profile is what members see in the directory. Preview it anytime by clicking your artist name in the dashboard header. Tabs visible to visitors: Portfolio, Shop, Deals, Events, Gallery, Reviews, Social, and Q&A. Keep every tab populated to maximize engagement.

Account Management

32. Notifications

Configure email, in-app, and SMS notifications from Settings → Notifications. Artist notifications include: new follower, new review, deal redemption, shop order, ticket purchase, payout released, and admin alerts.

33. Stripe Connect Setup

Connect your Stripe account from Payouts → Connect Stripe to receive funds from ticket sales, shop orders, and event revenue directly to your bank account on your payout schedule.

34. Security Settings

Update your artist account email and password from Settings → Security. Your first and last name (shown in your dashboard header) is editable from the Profile tab.

35. Broadcasts

Send updates to all ticket holders for any of your events — schedule changes, venue updates, event-day details. Target all attendees or specific ticket types. Broadcasts are delivered by email.

36. Closing Your Account

To close your artist account, deactivate all deals, fulfill open shop orders, and complete or cancel any scheduled events with refunds processed. Contact support to initiate closure. Analytics and order data are retained for accounting purposes.
